NATIONAL PET I.D. WEEK

There are several ways to offer your pet identification.  Tags on the collar are a great way to identify a pet. Remember your phone number is plenty of information. Having your pet microchipped is a fabulous choice.

Your local animal shelter or vet can chip them for a low cost. Register your pet's microchip at your local shelter(s).  

Register AKC Reunite for a one time $20 fee to cover your pet for life. If your pet is lost AKC Reunite emails registered owners in your area a  description, last known location, and picture if one is submitted. 
 
​Tattooing your pet is another option. There are collars that have your phone number stitched on them (GOTAGS).

​Have an up-to-date picture of your pet. Posting quickly in your neighborhood watch, flyers, and taking a picture to your local animal shelter can make a big difference if your pet is lost.

Remember to keep the microchip and/or tag information in a safe place.

There is also an organization called Pet FBI, since 1998, that can help. It is a free database and information center for lost and found pets and works with Lost Dogs of America and other organizations. It is a non-profit 501 organization. FBI stands for 'Found by Internet' National Lost Dog Awareness Day is Apr. 23.
