What is a low-maintenance dog?
On one survey it meant that the dog needs very little exercise, training, or grooming. There is little shedding and the dog can be left alone for a while. The survey acknowledges that training is necessary. Havanese are funny, playful little dogs and they are very adaptable. It is also noted that every dog is an individual with its own history genetically and environmentally. There are exceptions. Another survey cites Havanese as excellent companion dogs, great for living in an apartment, good with kids and very smart. Good health is also part of being low-maintenance. Most surveys mention their cuddliness and big heart. The biggest reason is if your pet is missing. If your pet is lost or stolen having the pet identifiable is key to increasing the odds of getting your pup back. According to the Science Daily, dogs are 2.5 times more likely to be identified and returned home than non-microchipped dogs. Microchips cannot be lost or removed as collars or tags and give your pet the best possible chance of coming home if lost. Your veterinarian or local animal shelter can implant a chip. The cost is minimal and there is no maintenance involved other than registering the chip. A microchip does not bother the dog.
